High-angle rescue takes place on Colorado canyon mountainside, involving multiple teams

Multiple rescue crews responded to a serious incident in Poudre Canyon, near Fort Collins, on Sunday afternoon, which involved lowering an injured person down a mountainside. The initial post about the incident went out at about 3 p.m.

While details regarding specifically what happened to lead to the injury were not released, the incident resulted in a high-angle rescue scenario involving Poudre Fire Authority crews, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Lifeline1, Larimer County Search and Rescue, UC Health, and Poudre Canyon Fire.

A closure of Highway 14 was announced at 3:13 p.m., with the subject ultimately put in a litter and moved down the side of the mountain. Rescue crews then transported the subject across a frozen river and to a helicopter for emergency transport from the scene.

Highway 14 was reopened at about 5:26 p.m.

If you’re interested in supporting Colorado’s volunteer-powered search and rescue operation, one way to do so is through the purchase of a CORSAR card. It’s cheap, at only $3 per year.
