Broncos safety Justin Simmons, kick returner Marvin Mims named second-team All-Pro

Broncos vs. Chargers

Once again, Broncos safety Justin Simmons has been named second-team All-Pro.

Simmons on Friday was named by The Associated Press, which conducts voting for the NFL’s official All-Pro team, to the second team for the third straight year and fourth time in his eight-year career. He has yet to get a first-team selection.

Also being named to the second team was rookie kick returner Marvin Mims Jr.

The Broncos had no first-team selections. Cornerback Pat Surtain, a first-team selection in 2022, finished seventh among cornerbacks in the voting.

The All-Pro team was selected by a national panel of 50 selectors. Players got three points for a first-team vote and one for a second-team vote

Simmons finished fourth in the voting among safeties, getting two first-place votes and 26 total points. Baltimore’s Kyle Hamilton and Tampa Bay’s Antoine Winfield Jr. were named to the first team and Atlanta’s Jessie Bates III also was a second-team pick.

Mims finished second in the voting among kick returners behind Green Bay’s Keisan Nixon with eight first-place votes and 38 total points. Mims also finished fourth among punt returners with five first-place votes and 18 total points.

Simmons and Mims recently were named to the Pro Bowl Games along with Surtain. Surtain, who received five first-place votes and 21 total points in All-Pro voting, might have been hurt by his slow start to the season.

“Honestly, early in the year I think I wasn’t living up to my standard, me personally,” Surtain told The Denver Gazette on Dec. 8, adding that his play then got “better and better.”

Denver’s Mitchell Fraboni finished third in the voting at long snapper with eight total points. MIchael Burton was fourth at fullback with two first-place votes and eight total points. And Quinn Meinerz tied for fourth at right guard with one first-place vote and six total points.

Other Broncos players to get votes were left tackle Garett Bolles (two points), linebacker Alex Singleton (two points), punter Riley Dixon (two points), wide receiver Courtland Sutton (one point) and slot cornerback J’Quan McMillian (one point).
