52-year-old skier dies following “serious incident” at Breckenridge
Breckenridge Ski Resort has confirmed that a 52-year-old male skier visiting the destination from Miami, Florida died following a serious incident on February 1.
According to a press release from the resort, ski patrol responded to the incident in the area of an intermediate run on Peak 8. Reporting from Summit Daily clarifies that the unwitnessed incident involved a fall in the trees near Duke’s Run.
After the rescue subject was reached by ski patrol, he was transported to the Peak 8 First Aid Room for further care and evaluation, eventually pronounced deceased.
“Breckenridge Ski Resort, Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Jon Copeland, vice president and chief operating officer at Breckenridge Ski Resort.
This is the fourth resort-related skiing or snowboarding death to be reported at a slopesport destination in Colorado thus far this season. It follows a death in Aspen that involved a 22-year-old colliding with a tree near the end of January.
Condolences go out to those impacted by this skier’s death.
