Denver weather: Mild weather Thursday ahead of weekend snow

On the heels of some snow melting Wednesday, Thursday’s weather around Denver will be in transition ahead of a weekend snow storm.
Denver residents can expect mostly sunny skies Thursday with a high near 49, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. A south southwest wind is forecast to blow between 7 to 10 mph, becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.
Tonight, Mile High City dwellers will see a 10% chance of snow after 5 p.m., with partly cloudy conditions and a low around 26 and a south wind around 6 mph.
Periods of moderate snow continue until this evening for areas near Rabbit Ears Pass. Slick roads are possible along mountain passes. Additionally, wind gusts up to 50 mph could create blowing snow conditions this afternoon. Additional light snowfall arrives tonight for areas south of Interstate 70.
A weak storm system will bring some light snow to the region Friday morning, especially along and south of I-70. A more organized system is expected to arrive late Friday night, bringing a better chance of accumulating snowfall across the region for the weekend. Several inches of snow will be possible across the foothills and adjacent plains through Sunday morning.

Friday: A 30% chance of snow, mainly after 7 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 44. West northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming east in the afternoon. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday: Snow. High near 33. North wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.
