Police shot and injured a man in Fort Collins who was allegedly menacing a woman with two small children in strollers with a handgun. Following his release from the hospital, the man was arrested on charges including kidnapping.
Fort Collins Police Department officers responded to a report of a suspicious man in the area of the Colorado State University campus at West Elizabeth Street and South Shields Street around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the department.
Colten Sirio, 32, was found in the area allegedly holding a handgun and behaving in a “threatening manner toward a woman pushing two small children in a stroller,” according to a Friday press release from the 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
Officers recognized Sirio from an incident two days before, according to the release.
Sirio allegedly ignored the police officers’ pleas to stand down and walked away with the victims. An officer then fired, striking Sirio.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital and released on Friday. The woman and children were not injured in the incident.
Following his release from the hospital, Sirio was booked in the Larimer County Jail on charges of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, menacing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
Investigators later learned that the suspect knew the victims. The CIRT team continues to investigate the incident.
