Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) blasted President Joe Biden on Sunday after a special counsel report called into question the octogenarian’s mental capabilities.

“[I]n a world this dangerous, you can’t have a commander in chief who doesn’t know what he’s doing or where he is,” Gingrich told The Cats Roundtable host John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM.

The special counsel report, released Thursday, did not announce charges against Biden but concluded that he had mishandled classified documents. Part of the reason for not pursuing charges, special counsel Robert Hur wrote, was because Biden’s memory was “significantly limited” and that a jury would likely view the president as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

“Mr. Biden’s memory was significantly limited, both during his recorded interviews with the ghostwriter in 2017, and in his interview with our office in 2023,” Hur wrote.

After the report came down, Biden held a press conference aimed at slapping back at Hur’s report, where he confused the leaders of Mexico and Egypt, further fueling concerns about his mental capabilities.

“I think as you know initially, the president of Mexico, Sisi, did not want to open up the gate to humanitarian material to get in. I convinced him,” Biden said, referring to Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

“[Y]ou watch that, and you realize, ‘This is the guy under our system, who is commander in chief,’” Gingrich said of the gaffe.

Biden also recently needed assistance to remember the name of Hamas, the terrorist group that attacked Israel on Oct. 7. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the slip-up as common.
