New Sunset Amphitheater in Colorado Springs adds country music star to the lineup

Pop rock, ’60s surf tunes and now a little country music to round things out.

Country music star Dierks Bentley is the latest addition to the Sunset Amphitheater lineup. Tickets for his Aug. 30 show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Go online to sunsetamphitheater.live or axs.com.

Fellow country singers Chase Rice and Zach Top will open the show at the new 8,000-seat, open-air venue on the city’s north side, southeast of Interstate 25 and North Gate Boulevard in the Polaris Pointe development.

Bentley, who released his eponymously-named debut album in 2003, has gone on to chart 22 No. 1 hits, including “What Was I Thinkin’,” “Come a Little Closer,” “Settle for a Slowdown,” “Every Mile a Memory,” “Free and Easy (Down the Road I Go)” and “Feel That Fire.”

His 2018 album, “The Mountain,” was written and recorded in Colorado. “Gravel & Gold,” his tenth album, dropped a year ago.

The city’s newest venue will open Aug. 9 with a sold-out concert by OneRepublic, a popular pop rock band founded more than two decades ago in Colorado Springs by lead singer Ryan Tedder and lead guitarist Zach Filkins. A second show was added Aug. 10, but it’s also sold out.

The Beach Boys, with founding lead singer Mike Love and longtime singer, keyboard and bass player Bruce Johnston, will perform Aug. 16. Tickets are $44 to $219 and on sale now.
