Beginning in March, Bustang transportation services will discontinue one of its rush hour transit options from Colorado Springs to Denver, according to a Monday announcement from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Officials said beginning on March 1, Bustang will discontinue its rush-hour transportation route from Colorado Springs to the Denver Tech Center.
According to CDOT, the route — which currently services one trip per day, will be redirected to the Bustang’s South Line between Colorado Springs and Denver Union Station, which stops at the DTC.
According to CDOT spokesperson Bob Wilson, the decision to discontinue the route relied on a drastic decrease in ridership since its creation in 2019.
Wilson said the route was initially created to complement the construction of the Interstate 25 South Gap Project — a four-year project of widening the 18-mile stretch of highway between Castle Rock and Monument.
Wilson said the department wanted to provide a second option for Colorado Springs Commuters who didn’t want to sit in traffic.
Between the widening project’s conclusion and the societal shift to remote work following the pandemic, the department witnessed a drastic decrease in route ridership, averaging three riders a day over the past year, Wilson said.
According to CDOT officials, commuter’s dependent on transportation from Colorado Springs to the DTC can utilize the Bustang’s South Line.
“(the South Line) Covers a similar alignment — just with different stops near the Tech Center — customers can find good alternate options for their trips, including connections to local transit services at SkyRidge and Colorado Stations,” officials said.
