Douglas County officers looking for man who escaped patrol car
A man still bound by handcuffs escaped from the back of a sheriff’s patrol car in Douglas County on Tuesday evening after being arrested for outstanding felony warrants. Deputies are now searching for the suspect.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 29-year-old Alexander Reighart on outstanding felony warrants for “financial crimes and drug violations” on Tuesday evening according to a news release from the department. He was arrested near Highway 85 and Town Center Drive in unincorporated Douglas County near Highlands Ranch around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Following being detained, Reighart “managed to escape out of the back of a patrol car while in handcuffs,” the department said.
Deputies began an extensive search, but were unable to find Reighart. They were still looking for the suspect Wednesday around 3 p.m.
“Reighart is not believed to be a danger to the public,” according to the release, but no other information was provided.
While the department declined to describe Reighart’s escape due to an active investigation, they did state that the deputies involved did not violate any department policies leading up to the escape.
He is described as 5’10”, 160 pounds and was last seen wearing green pants, a green jacket and a light gray hoodie.
Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.
