Fort Carson fire crews are battling a second wildfire that started around 11:30 a.m. Monday. The new blaze, which is 100 acres and spreading quickly, is near the first fire that started on Sunday, a news release said.

“Currently all Fort Carson fire crews are on hand in an effort to contain the blaze,” the statement said. Fort Carson said 14 people, 10 firefighters and four from the Directorate of Public Works, are working the fire.

The fire that started Sunday south and west of Fountain is about 700 acres and 80% contained, an earlier release said. It is unknown if the fires are connected.

Additional firefighting resources will be assisting in the fight against the second fire, the release said.

The fire is not threatening any structures or personnel at this time. Smoke is expected between the eastern Fort Carson perimeter line and Interstate 25.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
