Denver weather: Leap Day sun and warm temps into the 60s

A return to sunny and warm weather for Leap Day Thursday is in store around Denver.

Denver residents can expect sunny skies Thursday with a high near 62, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. A south southwest wind will blow between 5 to 7 mph, becoming calm in the afternoon.

West winds gusting up to 50 mph will continue over the higher elevations of the Front Range today, and may descend into the higher foothills above 7500 feet tonight.

Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 35 and a south southwest wind between 7 to 9 mph.

Sunny skies and warmer highs will continue Friday, then wind on Saturday ahead of Saturday night and Sunday rain/snow mix.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South southwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 64. Windy, with a south southwest wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph.

Sunday: A chance of snow before 10 a.m., then a chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday: A slight chance of snow. Mostly sunny, with a high near 50.
