Dust off those tackle boxes. Fishing season is officially here.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife on Friday announced its 2024-25 state fishing licenses are officially on sale.
According to prices posted on the CPW website, an annual Colorado fishing license is priced at $41.83 for residents between the ages of 18-64. Residents aged 16-17 or 65 and over can get an annual pass for a discounted $11.47. Non-residents, however, pay significantly more at $117.14 regardless of age.
All anglers are also required to have a “Habitat Stamp” which costs $12.15 for an annual stamp or $364.63 for a lifetime stamp.
One-day and five-day passes are also available and don’t require the Habitat Stamp. Those passes range from $16 to $38.
A second-rod stamp is also available for $12.68 for all anglers. For a full list of prices, including boating stamps and small game licenses, visit the CPW website.
CPW said it stocks more than 90 million fish annually in Colorado’s 1,300 lakes and reservoirs and 27,000 miles of streams — and fishing license sales support that operation.
“From warmer waters to mountain streams, Colorado angling opportunities are world-renowned,” CPW said in a news release. “Funding from fishing license sales may allow for additional public access, community angling grants, and habitat improvement projects that support state birds, fish, and other small game.”
CPW said it’s in the process of replenishing the state’s walleye and saugeye fisheries, and stocking trout along the Front Range.
“Spring is around the corner, and so is the opportunity to get out and enjoy the active, outdoor Colorado lifestyle by going fishing,” CPW Angler Education Coordinator Andre Egli said in a news release. “If you are new to fishing there are many classes offered around the state. Classes are available for new anglers, families, or seasoned anglers that want to learn a new technique like fly fishing.”
Colorado fishing licenses are valid March 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025 and are available for purchase online, by phone at 1-800-244-5613, at a CPW office or from an authorized retailer.
