Comedian Nick Swardson removed from Beaver Creek venue after incoherent performance
After an alleged “Rocky Mountain High”, a famous standup comedian suffered a career low on Sunday evening, when he was escorted off stage from his own performance following 20 minutes of unhinged behavior involving the crowd at Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek.
Comedian Nick Swardson, 47, famous for his role as role as Terry Bernadino in the comedy series Reno 911! and for various supporting roles in Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison films, was removed from his own standup set on the evening of March 3 after his show began with incoherent rambling and back-and-forth profanity laced exchanges with the audience.
Reactions shown from social media videos were mixed, with some of the crowd jeering while others seemed to urge him on.
One video of the incident can be viewed here. (Note, video contains explicit language)
Observers in the crowd and on social media questioned whether Swardson was under the influence while the scenes took place. After the incident, at around 3:28 p.m. on Monday, Swardson alluded that that was the case, posting on social media platform X,
“Just casually woke up on TMZ. Travel tip: don’t drink and take edibles in high altitude. (expletive) brain diarrhea. I’ll make it up to you Beaver Creek!”
Previously, Swardson had claimed to have quit drinking, but themes of drug and alcohol use have been continuous mainstays of his comedy.
In a video posted by TMZ, Vilar Performing Arts Center’s director of operations Justin Brown is shown concluding the show onstage saying, “We’ve decided to conclude the show early. In the best interest of those who’ve bought tickets, we apologize for what you’ve seen tonight. Please e-mail the box office. We’ll be responding to inquiries and processing credits and refunds. We apologize.”
Swardson has two additional Colorado shows scheduled for this Tuesday, March 5 in Aspen at Belly Up Aspen. So far, no cancellations or postponements have been announced.
