A far-left activist group has claimed responsibility for committing arson against a Tesla plant in Germany.

The arson, which caused an electricity pylon close to the plant to catch fire, was started by the Volcano Group, which argued in a letter that the plant was using up resources in exchange for “killer cars.” The damage caused to the pylon resulted in the electric vehicle factory and several towns nearby losing power.

“We sabotaged Tesla,” the letter read. “Tesla consumes earth, resources, people, workers and in return spits out 6,000 SUVs, killer cars and monster trucks each week.”

Though the fire had damaged the pylon, it did not spread to the factory, which had been in a “safe state,” according to Tesla. The electric car manufacturer also confirmed the factory’s workers had been sent home.

Brandenburg Interior Minister Michael Stuebgen said Tuesday that the law would be implemented “with the utmost severity” in response to this attack.

The arson attack comes as Tesla has plans to expand this factory, which is the only one Tesla has in Europe. The expansion plans have been objected to by around 100 people who are camping in a forest close to the factory, though they have denied playing any part in this arson.

The Washington Examiner contacted Tesla for comment.
