‘A more mature atmosphere’: Colorado bar bans younger crowd after fatal shooting
A bar in Colorado Springs has put a new rule in place in hopes of ensuring a “more mature and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone” – by banning those under 30 years of age.
Luxe Daiquiri Lounge made the announcement regarding the rule change on March 31, having since posted “30-plus” on subsequent event listings.
The rule change followed a fatal shooting that took place in the parking lot of the establishment last weekend that killed on 22-year-old and injured two others.
In addition to the new age limit, the lounge has increased security measures and will be implementing a new dress code that’s “designed to elevate [the] lounge experience and maintain a classy ambiance.” Music at the lounge will now cater to those who enjoy R&B, Afrobeats, jazz, and reggae.
The announcement was met with a mixed reaction on social media, with some people praising the age requirement and newly featured music genres while others claimed the move is discriminatory and addressing the wrong issues.
