Denver weather: Red flag warning, blowing dust, temps near 80

It is going to be windy, dusty and very warm in Denver today as a red flag warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Denver residents can also expect patchy blowing dust after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It will be mostly sunny with a high near 76 and windy, with a south wind between 10 to 15 mph, increasing to 21 to 26 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Tonight, expect a 20% chance of showers after 1 a.m., with patchy blowing dust before 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 41. Windy, with a south wind 21 to 26 mph decreasing to 13 to 18 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 39 mph.

Critical fire weather conditions expected across the plains and Palmer Divide today. Red Flag Warnings are in effect from late this morning through this evening for most of the lower elevations.

An approaching storm system is expected to bring snow showers to the mountains beginning tonight.

Saturday: Rain showers likely before 9 a.m., then rain and snow showers likely between 9 and 10 a.m., then snow showers likely after 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 42 by 10 a.m. Windy, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west northwest 27 to 32 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Windy, with a west northwest wind 18 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Monday: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 56.

Tuesday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 11 a.m., then a chance of rain showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
