Man captures live wolf, brings it into bar before killing it

A disturbing report out of Wyoming published by Cowboy State Daily details how a man has been cited for capturing a live wolf and reportedly showing it off at a local bar before killing it.

The incident took place on February 29, involving a man running a wolf down on a snowmobile and disabling it, before taping its mouth shut and then taking it to a bar in the town of Daniel. After taking the wolf to the bar, he allegedly took the animal behind the bar and shot it, killing the animal.

While the man was in a part of the country where killing wolves is legal, capturing a live wolf is not. As a result of the incident, he was issued a citation and fine for being in possession of a live wolf, with the related fine for that crime being $250.

As news of the incident has recently broken, it has since caused quite a stir online, with many people condemning the actions of the man calling them “cruel” and “disgusting.”

Questions have also been raised about whether or not the situation could have an impact on Wyoming’s policy toward wolf management, which involves 85 percent of the state being considered a “predator zone” where wolves can be killed without a hunting tag.

This ‘predatory zone’ has been addressed in relation to Colorado’s recent wolf reintroduction, as wolves are protected in Colorado, but not across the border in Wyoming. As a result, wolves from Colorado can be killed if they happen to wander across the state line.
