Aurora dentist asked fellow inmate’s relative to help cover up mom’s murder, prosecutors say

Prosecutors have added two charges to the murder case of an Aurora dentist accused of poisoning his wife last year.

In an amended complaint filed earlier this week, James Craig — who is already facing a first degree murder count — is now accused of trying to convince the relative of a fellow inmate to help cover up his wife’s death, according to court documents.

Court records show Craig continued to do this for almost two weeks while in county jail, Denver Gazette partner 9News reported. An 18th Judicial District spokesperson said that Judge Shay Whitaker has not yet signed the amended complaint.

Craig’s criminal defense attorney, Andrew Ho, had no comment when contacted by The Denver Gazette.

Craig, a former Aurora dentist and father of the couple’s six children, is accused of first-degree murder in the high-profile case which has received national media attention, and now is facing two counts of soliciting to commit tampering with physical evidence.

Angela Craig had high levels of two chemicals, tetrahydrozoline and cyanide, in her body, according to. testimony from Arapahoe. County Coroner Kelly Lear during the preliminary hearing. Lear said that Craig had more than 400 times the amount of tetrahydrozoline in her body than a therapeutic dose.

Tetrahydrozoline is the chemical found in Visine eyedrops. It’s the chemical, Lear explained which “gets the red out.”

Mrs. Craig made emergency room visits three times in March, 2023 over a period of nine days — each time becoming more increasingly ill.

On March 6, 2023 the 43-year-old visited Parker Adventist hospital complaining of global heaviness with possible vertigo. She was released that day only to return on March 9 with symptoms of fatigue, vomiting, headache, lightheadedness, and confusion. She was discharged March 14 only to return for her final visit the next day.

March 15, 2023, Mrs. Craig entered the ER, collapsed, was put on a ventilator and pronounced brain dead that night. She was taken off life support March 18.

The 46-year-old has pleaded not guilty to his wife’s murder.

The arrest affidavit said that he told friends that the couple was having marital problems and that she was having “suicidal ideations.”

Craig’s two-week trial is scheduled to start with jury selection Aug. 8, but he has a motions hearing scheduled for April 16.
