Amber Alert deactivated after 6-year-old girl found safe, suspect in custody

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber Alert for a 6-year-old girl that was inside a stolen vehicle late on Sunday night.

A 2015 Jeep Compass was stolen from a gas station at E. Iliff Ave. and S. Havana St. with a child inside around 9 p.m., according to the Aurora Police Department.

Police described the girl, Aaliyah Chance, as a Black female with braids. She was wearing a rainbow jacket. She has black hair, brown eyes, is 3 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 50 lbs, according to the CBI alert.

Just before 11 p.m., Aurora police announced on X that Chance was located safely and the male suspect is now in custody.

Police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Kirk Abercrombie of Fort Collins. Abercrombie was booked in the Aurora Detention Center early Monday morning for second-degree kidnapping and felony motor vehicle theft.
