Air Force extends contract of football coach Troy Calhoun through the 2029 season
Air Force signed football coach Troy Calhoun to a contract extension through 2029, the academy announced Tuesday.
The Falcons have averaged 10 wins over their past four full seasons under Calhoun, who has led the program since 2007.
“Coach Calhoun has had an outstanding career at Air Force over the last 17 years,” Air Force athletic director Nathan Pine said in a news release. “He understands and embraces the mission of the Academy and leads our program accordingly. I am proud of the success we have enjoyed together over the last five seasons and look forward to continuing to build on that in the new College Football Playoff model. We are pleased to have Coach Calhoun continue leading our football program for the next six years and beyond.”
Calhoun’s most recent deal, a pact signed in 2020, ran through the 2026 season.
In Calhoun, Air Force has by far the most tenured coach amongst its peers. In the Mountain West, Blake Anderson of Utah State has had the second-longest run at his school. Anderson was hired in 2021. Half the programs in the conference will feature new head coaches in 2024.
Among the service academies, Army’s Jeff Monken has been in his role since 2014 and Navy’s Brian Newberry is entering his second season.
