Brendan Rodgers’ grand slam leads Rockies to victory over Padres

Padres Rockies Baseball

The Rockies had lost eight of nine, and six consecutive games to the Padres but saw Brendan Rodgers make the difference Tuesday.

His first-career grand slam led Colorado’s 7-4 win, and Justin Lawrence closed the door in the ninth to ensure Jalen Beeks’ standout relief performance wasn’t wasted.

“You hope that these types of moments can jumpstart (us),” Rockies manager Bud Black said after.

Rockies 7, Padres 4

What happened: Brendan Rodgers drove in four runs at once with his lone hit, and they represented the difference in Colorado’s sixth win in 24 tries.

On the mound: Ryan Feltner was roughed up and allowed four earned runs on 10 hits in just four innings. Jalen Beeks held tough though and threw three scoreless innings for a much-deserved win. Justin Lawrence earned his first save with a clean ninth.

At the plate: Brendan Rodgers made his first home run of 2024 a grand one. The first grand slam of his career came in the fourth inning. Nolan Jones broke an 0-for-26 streak with a second-inning single before exiting later in the game with a stiff back after the sixth inning at-bat it tightened up in. Bud Black indicated he’s day-to-day. Elehuris Montero walked in a run and Ezequiel Tovar singled in another.

What’s next: San Diego Padres (RHP Matt Waldron, 0-2) at Colorado Rockies (Bullpen game) at 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday at Coors Field (Rockies.TV).
