Dakota Hudson is offering free passes, and the Giants were the latest to take advantage on Tuesday.
He struggled with walks again and allowed a four-run fourth inning to spell his doom and the end of his start in a 5-0 loss to San Francisco.
The club’s offense was shut out for the sixth time this season — two have come in their last three games. In an additional five games, they have failed to score more than one run.
Giants 5, Rockies 0
What happened: Dakota Hudson’s spree of walks continued and San Francisco took advantage. The Giants scored four in the fourth to pull ahead of Colorado’s struggling offense for good.
On the mound: Hudson walked five batters for the second time in his last four starts. He allowed four earned runs because of it and has issued 22 free passes in 34 innings. Ty Blach threw three innings in relief and allowed one earned run. Nick Mears and Tyler Kinley also had clean outings.
At the plate: Colorado had four hitters contribute a single as all of its four hits as a team. The Rockies have five or fewer hits in three of their last six games. They are on pace for franchise-worst marks in average, on-base and slugging percentage.
What’s next: San Francisco Giants (RHP Jordan Hicks, 2-1) at Colorado Rockies (RHP Peter Lambert, 2-1) at 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday at Coors Field (Rockies.TV).
