Colorado ski area confirms slopes will stay open into June this season

On the heels of Breckenridge Resort announcing what some have called an ‘early’ or ‘sudden’ closure for the season, another Summit County slopesport destination has confirmed that they’ll be keeping the lifts turning into June.

On May 13, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area announced that while they don’t have an official closing date to announce yet, their season will keep ticking on at least into next month.

“Once we reach June 1, operations will be assessed on a week-by-week basis based on weather and conditions,” reads the release.

The ski area reports that 10 fresh inches of snow fell on Sunday, with about a foot of snow falling the week before that. This has helped the ski area stay close to their year-over-year snowpack base average, which is about 66 inches. It’s worth noting that June skiing isn’t atypical for the spot, which tends to be the last open ski area in Colorado each season with seasons sometimes extending into July.

According to the Arapahoe Basin website, 94 of 144 runs found at the spot remain open, spread around 18 of the ski area’s 24 zones.

The ski area says Zuma Bowl, Pali, the Front Size, and East Wall are all open and “skiing great.” The resort did, however, also warn springtime visitors of the ever-changing conditions that can be possible this late in the season, encouraging guests to follow instruction on posted signage and to be cautious of hazards that may be hidden under a thinning snowpack.

It’s also worth noting that Arapahoe Basin is offering plenty of spring skiing discounts, making it cheaper to hit the slopes and enjoy the base-area 6th Alley Bar and Grill.
