Spot with cheese-topped-steak dubbed best ‘under-the-radar’ steakhouse in Colorado

Cheapism recently published a list of the best “under-the-radar” steakhouse in each American state, including Colorado. The list features chef or family-owned steak joints chosen for their overall customer ratings, awards, local word of mouth, and expert recommendations.

The Fort, located in Morrison, was selected as Colorado’s best ‘under-the-radar’ steakhouse. Established in 1963, the restaurant is now owned by Holly Arnold Kinney. Originally built to be a family home, the restaurant is designed as a frontier-themed adobe replica of Bent’s Old Fort. The restaurant occupies the lower level while the upper level once served as a living quarters and now provides office space.

The restaurant features an “eclectic exotic steak menu,” including the Incorrect Steak, Gonzales Steak, and many more. The ‘Incorrect Steak,’ for example, is described on the menu as a “14-ounce Colorado natural beef NY strip, topped with a blend of melted Mexican cheeses, New Mexican Dixon red chile sauce, and a fried egg.”

The Fort’s menu is influenced by the cuisine of pioneers traveling along the Santa Fe Trail, Native American tribes, and Mexican and Spanish traders.

With it’s culinary influences and rich history, The Fort certainly offers a unique dining experience.
