Colorado jobless rate unchanged in April
The jobless rate in Colorado held steady in April at 3.7%, unchanged from the month before, the Colorado Department of Labor and Unemployment reported Friday.
That followed three straight months in which the state’s unemployment rate edged up. The nation’s unemployment rate in April was 3.9%, up a tenth of a percentage point from March. North Dakota and South Dakota had the lowest jobless rates in April, both at 2%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Other highlights from Friday’s state report:
• Colorado’s labor force increased by 1,500 in April to 3,236,800. The share of Coloradans participating in the labor force was unchanged in April at 68%. That remains above the U.S. labor force participation rate of 62.7%.
• The number of people employed in Colorado declined by 400 in April to 3,116,700.
• Employers in Colorado added 300 nonfarm payroll jobs from March to April for a total of 2,981,100 jobs, according to a survey of businesses. Private sector payroll jobs dropped by 600; government added 900 jobs.
• Colorado’s rate of job growth over the past year is 1.8%, the same as the U.S. rate.
• Denver and Colorado Springs’ unemployment rates in April were identical at 3.5%. Pueblo’s rate was 4.6%. However, those figures are not seasonally adjusted; the state rate is.
