A Netherlands company debuts its platform in Boulder

Peerby is an online community where people can borrow or share kitchen appliances, power tools, sports equipment or more — and it’s coming to Boulder.

The platform, founded in the Netherlands in 2011 to reduce waste by letting people share everyday items, announced last week it’s debuting in Boulder to establish its first U.S. community. Peerby has had huge success in Amsterdam, where one-in-four households are members, according to the company.

The startup’s founder and CEO Daan Weddepohl said Boulder was a good “cultural fit” for Peerby’s first U.S. expansion.

Anyone in Boulder can sign up to the Peerby marketplace for free.

The platform allows people to search for goods or list their own items to lend for free or a fee. Peerby also offers warranty in case items are damaged or lost. The marketplace aims to help people save money and keep underutilized items from going into landfills.

“I’m thrilled to spearhead the Boulder, Colorado, Peerby community. We’ll soon be hosting events and doing community outreach, so we encourage people to stay tuned for updates,” said Boston Smith, Peerby’s Boulder community ambassador, in a statement.

Family Jones Distillery names new president

A Denver-based craft distillery is wanting to expand nationally and hired a new president to help the company with its ambitions.

The Family Jones Distillery announced it promoted Matt Reilly as its president, who has expertise in sales, production and supply chain management.

Reilly was the distillery’s former director of sales and helped the company build relationships in the industry, the company said.

“He continually demonstrates a tireless commitment to his team, our customers, and the community at large,” said CEO and co-founder Paul Tamburello. “Over the past year, his steady leadership and keen vision for our sales department have made it abundantly clear to our Board and Executive Team that he is the ideal person to appoint for this role.”

Reilly will be responsible for overseeing the distillery’s operations and national growth strategies. The Family Jones Distillery was founded in 2017 and focuses on sourcing from local farms practicing regenerative farming — an agricultural method committed to restoring soil health — to make its spirits.

“As we embark on this exciting journey of expansion, I am dedicated to upholding our core values and furthering our mission to craft exceptional spirits while fostering meaningful relationships with small family farms,” Reilly said in a statement.

Yoga studio opening fifth Denver location in Cherry Creek North

Yoga Box is coming to Cherry Creek North in June, according to a statement from commercial real estate firm JLL who represented the tenant.

It will be the fifth location in Denver for the chain focusing on vinyasa and sculpting yoga and is in one of the most coveted markets in the city to open a business. Cherry Creek started the year with a record low vacancy rate for its retail real estate at 0.9%, making the neighborhood a vibrant destination where some businesses are willing to wait years in order to get a spot, according to the Cherry Creek Alliance.

The new studio will open on 2445 E. 3rd Ave. in a 2,100-square-foot space, according to JLL. Yoga Box also has locations in LoHi, RiNo, South Broadway and Capitol Hill.
