Denver residents should prepare for rain and a sharp decrease in temperature on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Tuesday is expected to be overcast, with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m., the weather agency said. Precipitation becomes much more likely between 3 and 5 p.m., when the chance of rain increases to 70%.

“Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are likely today into this evening. Organized severe weather is not anticipated, but stronger storms may produce small hail and gusty winds to 35 mph,” the NWS said.

Snow showers are possible across the mountains, mainly above 9,000 feet. Slick travel is possible at times across the high mountain passes. Snow accumulation today will generally be 1-3 inches.

The area will see a double-digit decrease in temperature from Monday, NWS said. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 61 degrees.

A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 39. North northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southwest after midnight.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 80. South southwest wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Friday: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 68.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 72.
