Wheat Ridge shoplifting call turns into officer involved hit-and-run
What started as a shoplifting call turned into an officer-involved hit-and-run outside a King Soopers grocery store in Wheat Ridge on Wednesday.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department responded to a shoplifting report at the grocery store at 3400 Youngfield Street around 12 p.m. Wednesday, according to a social media post by the department.
By 12:30 p.m., the department announced a “complex situation” after the suspect allegedly rammed into a patrol vehicle and two other cars in the parking lot before taking off.
Officers eventually caught up with the suspect vehicle at West 42nd Avenue and Youngfield Street, nearly two miles from the initial incident. One female suspect was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.
No officers were injured in the crash. A civilian did sustain injuries and was also taken to a nearby hospital.
Another suspect ran toward the Clear Creek trailhead around 12:30 p.m. Police searched for him for over two hours before falling back, according to the department.
The search was eventually stopped around 3 p.m., according to a subsequent post from the department. The investigation remains active as police search for information on the suspect and his whereabouts.
