A tragic situation unfolded in Colorado’s Clear Creek on Tuesday, with the Wheat Ridge Police Department responding to a report that a dog was stuck in the rapid water flow.

Officers responded to an area of Clear Creek near Boyd’s Crossing where a small waterfall is located after a 5-year-old Golden Retriever entered the water and went missing. According to the police department, they’re “concerned the 5-year-old Golden Retriever [named Lyla] did not make it.”

Crews from Arvada joined in on the search, which started at about 1:00 p.m. At about 2:30 p.m., it was reported that the search and recovery effort had been called off.

The police department encouraged the public to avoid the urge of letting their dogs into moving water, as water can be flowing particularly fast during this time in the year. “Please keep your dogs on a leash,” wrote the department.

There’s still a chance that Lyla did end up making it out of the water. If she is seen, call 911, said the Wheat Ridge Police Department.
