Manchin trolls Democrats with fishing trip photos: ‘Enjoying my independence’

Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) taunted his critics in a social media post on Saturday, boasting about his latest fishing trip.

Manchin, elected as a Democrat, announced on Friday that he switched his party registration to independent. His Senate term will end in 2025, and he has already announced he will not be running again. He posted photos of himself holding up fish along various river locations in West Virginia.

“Enjoying my first weekend of independence in Wild & Wonderful West Virginia,” Manchin captioned the photos.

There are currently three candidates running to take Manchin’s seat. The Republican candidate is Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV), with Glenn Elliott running as a Democratic candidate, and Michael Sigmon as the independent candidate. When Justice was first elected to the office of governor, he ran as a Democratic candidate, but he has since switched his party affiliation, doing so at a rally of Donald Trump’s.

Manchin has served in the Senate since 2010.
