Woman who died after falling into Boulder Creek identified
65-year-old Lisa Larson died after falling off of her bike on Friday
The Office of the Boulder County Coroner identified the woman who died after falling into Boulder Creek on Friday afternoon.
Lisa Larson, 65, was riding her e-bike with her husband, Art Konar, around 4:30 p.m. Friday, when she fell off of her bike into the Boulder Creek water near Four Mile Canyon, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders received multiple calls that a woman was laying face down in the water near the 40-mile marker of Boulder Canyon, west of a popular swimming area, according to the press release.
Larson was pulled from the water by first responders. Emergency professionals took her to a nearby ambulance and attempted resuscitation. She died on her way to the hospital.
Larson, who was born and raised in Missouri, was “a brilliant professor, radiant friend, and loving wife and mother,” an obituary published by the Ames Tribune in Iowa said.
She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri in Columbia and then worked as a professor at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and at Iowa State University.
Larson went on to publish 63 peer-reviewed articles, secure more than $6 million in nationally funded research grants, serve on the editorial boards of the top scholarly journals in her areas and receive a University Professor honor from Iowa State University, according to the obituary.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8. The memorial is open to the public and will be live-streamed on the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder’s YouTube channel.
