Weekend construction set to delay traffic Highlands Ranch intersection
Officials recommend avoiding the intersection of South Quebec Street and Lincoln Avenue Saturday evening and Sunday
Road construction in the Highlands Ranch area of Douglas County will pick up again this weekend of June 22-23, causing significant delays in the area.
The county will continue construction at the intersection of South Quebec Street and Lincoln Avenue, which then turns into South University Boulevard, on Saturday and Sunday, continuing a $13 million project to “improve road safety and quality,” according to a press release from Douglas County.
From 5 p.m. Saturday, June 22 to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 23, crews will pave in the middle of the intersection.
“For the safety of crews and the traveling public – and to increase paving efficiency and effectiveness – there will be very limited access through the intersection,” according to a news release.
The project is much overdue, according to Douglas County traffic officials.
“Did you know the intersection of University/Lincoln and Quebec was built more than 40 years ago?,” according to a news release. “Now, the concrete has reached the end of its useful life, and Douglas County is improving road quality and safety at the intersection.
“A project to rebuild and reconfigure the full intersection includes new concrete, a new traffic signal system, raised pedestrian safety islands, an additional eastbound and westbound lane on Lincoln Avenue and University Boulevard, and a new right-turn-only lane from southbound Quebec Street to westbound University Boulevard.”
Construction continues through the summer.
