Denver weather: Red flag warnings in effect as heat and dryness build Monday

Rain relief arrives later in the week

A red flag warning, air quality alert and generally hot and dry conditions to begin Monday around Denver and the metro area suburbs.

Denver residents can expect sunny skies with a high near 95 on Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

A red flag warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., for Denver, Jefferson, Broomfield, Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties near Denver and eastern Boulder County to the west. Conditions are favorable to for potential rapid fire spread with relative humidity levels as low as 9%.

“Critical fire weather conditions are possible this afternoon, mainly for parts of the urban corridor, plains, Palmer Divide, South Park, and Grand/Summit counties due to humidity as low as 10 percent,” the NWS said.

It’ll be breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph.

An air quality alert is in effect currently to 4 p.m. Monday afternoon for the Front Range urban corridor, including parts of Larimer and Weld counties in northern Colorado. Ozone concentration levels may reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category status and limited driving is recommended.

Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 58. It’ll be breezy, with a south southwest wind 11 to 16 mph, becoming northeast 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday: A 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. East wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Juneteenth: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Light east wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.

Thursday: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 90.
