Pickup blows through JeffCo Airport security fence, damages planes

Early Monday morning a red pickup truck Driven by a 47-year-old male drove through a security gate at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Jefferson County, striking two unoccupied aircraft parked on the apron.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the event at approximately 8:40 a.m.

The vehicle “blew” through the gate, past aircraft parked on the ramp, striking two of them, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Karlyn Tilley said.

The vehicle then crossed the ramp and proceeded down an embankment where it came to rest along an airport perimeter road guard rail.

Airport operations responded to the event, notifying law enforcement and medical services.

The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries from the crash but was transported to a local hospital for another medical condition, according to a statement from Colorado State Patrol.

A medical event is suspected as the cause of the crash.

RMMA’s new airport Director Erick Alan Dahl started his new position today, airport staff confirmed, but will be working remotely until later in the month.
