Interlaken fire in Lake County now 95% contained
The human-caused Interlaken fire south of Twin Lakes, Colorado in Lake County is nearly extinguished, officials with Interlaken Fire Information said Friday in a morning statement.
The wildfire is now 95% contained and its initial burn-size acreage estimate has been decreased too.
“Firefighters walked the perimeter of the Interlaken Fire yesterday (Thursday) using GPS capabilities to update the fire perimeter more accurately and as a result, the acreage of the fire was reduced from 748 to 698,” officials said. “This option is not always available but remains the most accurate form of mapping.”

Rain showers on Thursday helped fire crews even more with their efforts to contain the fire.
“The welcomed precipitation has diminished fire activity and containment was increased to 95%. Firefighters will remain on the fire repairing suppression actions,” officials said.
There are 158 personnel on the ground Friday, officials said.
“Areas affected by the closure are being reevaluated, but the closure cannot be fully lifted until the area is safe for outdoor enthusiasts to enter,” officials said.

A reduction in the Forest Service closure order went into effect on Tuesday, but several recreation sites, campgrounds and trails have reopened, however there is still a ‘closure area’ in effect. Please check the official order from the Forest Service here.
