Wells Fargo is closing its Internal Audit business unit in Denver and dozens of jobs will be cut, the company said in a letter filed with the state last week.

The shuttering of the unit will affect 80 jobs within the Wells Fargo Center — the iconic Denver skyscraper also known as the Cash Register Building — according to the bank’s letter required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).

The changes will begin in August and run through the end of the year.

Some workers may be relocated to other jobs in the company, the letter said, but those who aren’t will be eligible for paid severance benefits and health care based on the number of years served.

It’s still unclear how many will stay with the company.

A spokesperson for Wells Fargo did not respond for comment.

The internal audit unit has more than 1,500 members nationwide and is tasked with keeping the bank company compliant with rules and regulations, according to the company’s website.
