A death investigation is underway in Fountain following the discovery of a woman lying in the middle of the road, according to the Fountain Police Department.

Officials said at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday, an El Paso County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol in the area of Fountain Mesa Road and Caballero Avenue when he noticed the woman.

According to Fountain police, as the deputy approached the woman, it appeared she had been shot.

Officials said police and fire officials on the scene attempted to perform life-saving measures but were able to save her.

“This is an ongoing investigation. However, it was determined the deceased female was not shot or hit by a car,” Fountain Police Department officials said.
