North America’s largest EV festival coming to Denver this weekend

Electrify Expo Denver

A new expo is charging into Denver this weekend.

The Electrify Expo, which touts itself as North America’s largest electric vehicle festival, is making its first ever stop in Colorado from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday at The Yards in the National Western Complex. It’s part of an eight-city tour.

Attendees who are willing to brave the triple-digit heat forecast for this weekend can get a chance to drive some of the world’s top electric cars, trucks, e-motorcycles, e-bikes, e-scooters and e-skateboards, event organizers said. Vehicles from Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Volvo and more will be on display.

“As statewide electric and hybrid vehicle adoption rates continue to climb and e-bikes gain in popularity, we believe now is a perfect time to bring Electrify Expo to Denver,” said BJ Birtwell, CEO and founder of Electrify Expo. “We are an electric playground for all ages where people can have first-hand experiences with the best EVs, e-bikes and more, while cashing in on statewide rebates.”

The expo comes to Denver at a time when the state is pushing big incentives to get drivers to go electric. In addition to a $7,500 federal tax credit, eligible Coloradans can get another $5,000 state tax credit and additional incentives from energy utilities, organizers said.

Electrify Expo kids' zone

Children aged 5 years and under can get into the Electrify Expo free and have an interactive experience. It’s this weekend at the National Western Complex.

The incentives have helped push the state closer to the Colorado Energy Office and DMV’s goal of putting nearly 1 million EVs on the road in Colorado by 2030. In 2023, nearly 1 in 4 new vehicles registered in Colorado were either electric or hybrid, according to the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association, pushing Colorado to 121,692 registered EVs as of April 7.

The Denver event will feature the latest in outdoor recreation for the EV community, including RVs, EV-friendly off-road tires, tents, racks, storage, trailers, outdoor kitchens and more.

Event planners said there will also be an area where they will address frequently asked questions people have when first considering an EV purchase, and they’ll be debunking EV myths. There will also be a kids’ zone where children can have interactive experiences.

Attendees will also have a chance to ride in the Mustang Mach-E GT with a professional driver and see the all-new Rivian R3 and the Tesla Cybertruck.

Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

Electrify Expo attendees can have a chance to ride in a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT with a professional driver. It’s this weekend at the National Western Complex in Denver.

Event planners said despite the hot temperatures in the forecast, there will be ways for attendees to keep cool at the event.

“There will be plenty of shade throughout,” Morgan Skarda, an event spokesperson, told the Denver Gazette via email. “Alongside the festival’s large tents, almost every OEM booth is covered by large tents and most of the smaller exhibitors have shade canopies as well. There will also be food and drink vendors for refreshments and water refill stations.”

In addition to the hydration stations and shady areas, Skarda on Friday said event planners were bringing in large cooling fans to be placed around the festival to help attendees beat the heat. They also planned to provide free cooling towels that could be soaked in cold water and refreshed anytime throughout the day.

Tickets can be purchased online or in person for $20, plus taxes and fees. Children 5 years and under are free. Parking is $10. The event is located at 5004 National Western Drive in Denver.
