Lakewood Denny’s restaurant evacuated after grease fire spreads

Denny's fire

A Lakewood Denny’s restaurant was evacuated Tuesday morning after a grease fire started in the kitchen and spread into the attic, according to West Metro Fire Protection.

The Denny’s is located at 565 Union Blvd. in northwest Lakewood.

West Metro Fire officials said customers and employees were inside the restaurant when the fire started.

They all evacuated safely, according to the fire department.

West Metro officials reported the fire on social media platform X at 6:32 a.m., saying smoke was rising from the roof of the restaurant.

The incident began as an accidental grease fire, destroying both the kitchen and the attic, fire officials said.

West Metro Fire officials described it as “extensive damage” to the restaurant.

The fire department reported at 7:37 a.m. the fire was under control.

Denny’s did not respond to The Denver Gazette’s request for comment on when the restaurant might reopen, or what would happen to employees.
