Meet the athletes: Colorado connections in the 2024 Paris Olympics & Paralympics
Cheer on some hometown heroes from Colorado as they compete in this summer’s 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Valarie Allman
Track & Field • Longmont
Valarie Allman attended Silver Creek High School in Longmont. She was co-valedictorian in high school with a weighted GPA of 4.4. Allman specializes in the discus throw and won a gold medal in the event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Canyon Barry
Men’s 3×3 Basketball • Colorado Springs
Although Canyon Barry was born in Indiana, he graduated high school at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs. He comes from a basketball family as his mother was a collegiate basketball player and his father is an NBA Hall of Famer. While at the University of Florida, Canyon set the record for consecutive free throws (42).
Kamal Bey
Greco-Roman Wrestling • Colorado Springs
Wrestler Kamal Bey attended Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs and is also a culinary specialist in the U.S. Army. He will compete in the 77kg weight class while in Paris.
Wyndham Clark
Golf • Denver
Golfer Wyndham Clark is a Denver native and graduated high school at Valor Christian, where he was a classmate of NFL running back Christian McCaffrey. After high school, he first played golf at Oklahoma State, then University of Oregon. He was a Pac-12 Player of the Year at Oregon.
Valerie Constien
Track & Field • Edwards
Valerie graduated from Battle Mountain High School in Edwards. She attended University of Colorado at Boulder in pursuit of environmental engineering. This will be Constien’s second Olympics where she will run the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Elise Cranny
Track & Field • Niwot
Elise Cranny is a long-distance runner and a 1-time Olympian, having competed in the 2020 Tokyo Games. In Tokyo, she placed 13th in the 5000m race. She went to Niwot High School, located in between Boulder and Longmont.
Colin Duffy
Sport Climbing • Broomfield
Colin Duffy was the youngest U.S. climber at the Tokyo Games, and his profile states he has been climbing since the age of 5. He currently attends University of Colorado at Boulder.
Anna Hall
Heptathlon • Denver
Anna Hall was born and raised in Greenwood Village and attended Valor Christian High School. She first went to the University of Georgia, then finished her college career at the University of Florida. Anna already possesses the fifth highest heptathlon score in history.
John Joss
Paralympic Shooting • Colorado Springs
U.S. Army Sergeant 1st Class John Joss has been shooting for Team USA for over a decade, calling Colorado Springs home since 2019. Joss lost a portion of his right leg in 2007 while caught in an ambush overseas. He is a 2-time Paralympian and currently holds the national record in the R6- Mixed 50m Free Rifle Prone SH1.
Woody Kincaid
Track & Field • Littleton
Woody Kincaid is a long-distance runner who attended Columbine High School in Littleton. He went to college at University of Portland where he competed and earned multiple All-American honors.
Leonard Korir
Track & Field • Colorado Springs
Leonard Korir moved to the U.S. in 2009 from Kenya and is now a Staff Sergeant for the U.S. Army at Fort Carson. He runs long distance races including the 10000m and half marathon. He is also an 8-time NCAA All-American.
Elizabeth Marks
Paralympic Swimming • Colorado Springs
Swimmer Elizabeth Marks is a Sergeant 1st Class in the U.S. Army. She sustained bilateral hip injuries while in Iraq as a combat medic and it wasn’t until two years later that she began competitive swimming. She is also the Military Times’ 2024 Soldier of the Year.
Josh O’Neill
Wheelchair Rugby • Colorado Springs
Josh O’Neill has been playing wheelchair rugby for 12 years. This will be his first Paralympics although he has multiple accolades in the sport including a 2023 Parapan American gold medal and a silver at the world championships in 2022.
Jordyn Poulter
Volleyball • Aurora
Volleyball player Jordyn Poulter attended Eagle Crest High School and also played club volleyball at Front Range Volleyball Club. She went to the University of Illinois and started training with the U.S. National Team while she was still in college. She was named Best Setter at the Tokyo Olympic Games, where the U.S. won gold.
Brooke Raboutou
Sport Climbing • Boulder
Brooke Raboutou started climbing early in her life at age one and both of her parents are former climbing world cup champions. She is a 1-time Olympian having competed at the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she placed 5th in the combined event.
Howie Sanborn
Paratriathlon • Denver
Howie Sanborn is a retired U.S. Army Airborne Ranger who was also on the U.S. Army Parachute Team “The Golden Knights.” He was a triathlete while serving in the U.S. Army. In 2012, Sanborn had a cycling accident that resulted in paralysis below his waist. According to USA Triathlon, he currently lives in Colorado Springs.
Melissa Stockwell
Paratriathlon • Colorado Springs
Melissa Stockwell graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army post-graduation in 2002. In 2004, while deployed in Iraq, she lost her left leg after her vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. She and her husband have a prosthetics practice in Colorado Springs called TS Prosthetics.

Jataya Taylor
Wheelchair Fencing • Denver
Jataya Taylor found wheelchair fencing through the VA near her Colorado home, according to Gray DC. This was only a couple years ago, and she is now headed to her first Paralympics. Taylor is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who was injured in a pair of training accidents.
Jessica Thoennes
Rowing • Highlands Ranch
Jessica Thoennes graduated from Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch. Following graduation, she went to the University of Washington, where she walked on to the rowing team. Thoennes also competed at the Tokyo Games.
Haleigh Washington
Volleyball • Colorado Springs
Volleyball player Haleigh Washington graduated from Doherty High School in Colorado Springs. She was a part of the U.S. Women’s National Team who won the gold medal in Tokyo. She started playing professionally in Italy in 2018.
Emma Weber
Swimming • Boulder
Emma Weber went to Regis Jesuit High School and is currently attending the University of Virginia. She also competed with the Denver Hilltoppers swim club team. She swam a personal best time in the 100m breaststroke at the Olympic Trials. This will be the 20-year-old’s first Olympics.
