Coloradans in the Games: Wednesday’s results and Thursday’s lookahead for those with state ties in the Paris Olympics

Wednesday’s news

– Rower Jess Thoennes of Highlands Ranch, along with teammate Azja Czajkowski, finished second in the semifinals of the women’s coxless pair.

They will enter Friday’s final with the second-best qualifying time behind the two-person team from Lithuania.

– It was a second consecutive day of disappointment for the U.S. 3-on-3 basketball team, which includes Cheyenne Mountain graduate Canyon Barry and Denver’s Jimmer Fredette. The team fell 19-17 to Poland to start the Games 0-2.

– Boulder’s Taylor Knibb finished 19th in the women’s triathlon, posting a time of 1:58:37.

– Colorado Springs resident and Littleton native Rylan William Kissell ended his run with his third shooting event. Kissell finished 38th in 50-meter rifle three positions, failing to qualify.

– The U.S. women’s volleyball team, which includes Colorado Springs native Haleigh Washington and Aurora’s Jordyn Poulter survived 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 14-25, 17-15) to avoid an 0-2 start in pool play.

Three to watch

Looking ahead to Thursday’s Olympic action with a focus on those with Colorado connections.

1. Canyon Barry (Colorado Springs) and Jimmer Fredette (Denver) return to the 3-on-3 basketball court with games against Lithuania and Latvia as they seek to correct an 0-2 start in Paris.

2. Denver’s Wyndham Clark opens play as the men’s golf holds its first round.

3. It’s the final day of preparations before a flurry of activity in track & field.
