Kickin’ it with Kiz: Who’s the greater GOAT at the Olympics? LeBron James or Simone Biles?
If you ask me to choose between NBA superstar LeBron James and gymnast Simone Biles, I have to go with LeBron as the better athlete. His longevity in basketball at the top of his profession, with the amount of duress he withstands, is superior to Biles’ achievements. But Simone is more elite at her chosen profession and she is the undeniable GOAT, whereas LeBron is only in the conversation.
– A.L.D. from jolly old England
Kiz: At these Olympics in France, I’ve had the distinct privilege of seeing both James roll down the basketball court like a runaway train that can get up and dunk. And watching Biles vault, I’ve witnessed proof a woman can fly. Ain’t that the beauty of sports? Both an age-defying, 6-foot-9, 250-pound man and 4-foot-8, nitro-fueled rocket of a woman are capable of feats that make us believe there truly are no limits to human athletic achievement.
I’m going with Biles over James, because she’s a talented, class act, a true role model for Americans. That other guy is an overrated ingrate, one whose Daddy is a man called Joker.
– D.K., proud to be American
Kiz: Easy there, big fella. I think you are SpongeBob SquarePants underwear, not to mention your fondness for the Nuggets, might be showing a little in this discussion. But I’ll grant you this: After watching Biles rise nearly 12 feet above the floor during her floor exercise, you, me and Kevin Durant know she could slam home a lob pass for a dunk. James and Biles are both GOATs. But the better athlete? For me, it’s advantage, Biles.
Comparing the athletic skills of James to Biles? Are you kidding me? Nobody flops like James. The correct answer is: LeBron, by a mile.

Kiz: So it all comes down to the ability of Biles to flip on a balance beam that’s four inches wide to James’ proclivity flopping on a basketball court that’s 94 feet long? Interesting perspective. Makes the knuckleheads here at Kickin’ It Headquarters wonder: Can Biles play point guard and produce in the playoffs for the Nuggets against the Lakers? Because I’m afraid Russell Westbrook can’t.
After reading your column about Coloradan Layla Almasri running for Palestine at the Olympics, I ask: Did Ms. Almasri feel the pain of the women raped and killed, the babies stabbed in their cribs and the 1,300 Israelis murdered Oct. 7? What about the Americans killed? What was this propaganda you wrote? You should be ashamed. Those murdered were mostly Jews, so it’s OK?
– Dennis, the good doctor
Kiz: War is hell. For all involved. But it seems to me that in every conflict throughout time, both sides are certain God is on their side. So maybe we all should pray for peace.
And today’s parting shot is a heartfelt thanks to The Gazette for making the big commitment to cover the Olympics in France.
I’m a Boomer that rarely reads the sports section. But I’m entranced by your coverage of the Olympics, Kiz. I eagerly look forward to your daily column, hooked since your review of the Opening Ceremony. I appreciate good writing. The Gazette sent the right person to France.
