Coloradans in the Games: Saturday’s results and Sunday’s lookahead for those with state ties in the Paris Olympics

– Boulder’s Brooke Raboutou, a Fairview High School graduate, took silver in the boulder & lead climbing competition.

Raboutou scored 156 points, finishing behind only gold medalist Janja Garnbret of Slovenia (168.5 points).

For Raboutou, who is from a family of climbers, it is her first Olympic medal. She finished fifth in the 2020 Tokyo games in the event.

– The U.S. women’s soccer team won its first gold in 12 years as Highlands Ranch native Mallory Swanson scored in the 57th minute in 1-0 victory over Brazil.

It was the 100th national team appearance for Swanson, a Mountain Vista grad, who shared the gold medal experience with fellow Coloradans Lindsay Horan (Golden) and Sophia Smith (Windsor).

Derrick White, who starred at Legend High School, UCCS and Colorado, earned his first gold medal when the U.S. men’s basketball team topped France 98-87 on Saturday.

– Nuggets three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic captured a bronze medal with Serbia, topping Germany 93-83.

Jokic put up a triple double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

– Wrestler Kyle Snyder, who attended Coronado High School in Colorado Springs while a resident at the Olympic Training Center, won his first two matches before falling in the 97-kg freestyle semifinal to Akhmed Tazhudinov of Bahrain.

Leonard Korir of Colorado Springs finished 63rd in the marathon, running a 2:18:45.


Two to watch

Looking ahead to Sunday’s Olympic action with a focus on those with Colorado connections.

1. The U.S. women’s volleyball team will attempt to defend its gold medal as it faces Italy at 5 a.m.

Jordyn Poulter of Aurora and Haleigh Washington of Colorado Springs are key contributors for Team USA.

2. Kyle Snyder, a former Colorado Springs resident, will compete for a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling.
