Denver City Council to hear public feedback on proposed sales tax rate increase

In addition to hearing the public’s feedback on a proposed $100 sales tax increase, the Denver City Council will hear several resolutions authorizing payments to settle claims during its regular meeting on Monday.
Here’s a summary of the City Council’s business:
Contracts and resolutions
24-0985: An administrative procedure by the city, declaring its intent to use its best efforts to issue housing revenue bonds or mortgage credit certificates, citywide. Currently Denver has had $44.8 million allocated from the state Department of Local Affairs for 2024 and remains unused. It is reserved for upcoming affordable housing projects, according to city documents.
24-0820: Approves a contract with Family Star for $854,767.15 to provide Head Start and Early Head Start to 63 children and their families as a delegate agency of Denver Great Kids Head Start, in Council Districts 1, 2, 3, and 7.
24-0978: Approves a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs for $2.5 million for infrastructure work associated with the construction of the Denverado at Welton, creating 62 affordable condominium housing units in Council District 9.
24-1048: A resolution authorizing and approving a payment of $350,000, made payable to the Law Office of Sean T. Olson Trust Account, in full payment and satisfaction of all claims related to Christopher Cordova v. Denver, and Jacob Marsh, which was filed in the Denver District Court, settling a claim involving the Denver Police Department. Cordova, a delivery driver for Bimbo Bakeries, Inc., had just started his shift about 3 a.m. April 13, 2021, according to court records. He drove a Ford truck south on Quebec Avenue. Marsh, a Denver police officer, drove northbound in the southbound lane without lights or siren “purportedly taking police action by attempting to apprehend a car whose driver had violated a traffic law,” according to the lawsuit. Cordova suffered injuries in the crash.
24-1049: A resolution authorizing and approving a payment of $39,911.29 payable to the Fleet Response, in full payment and satisfaction of all claims related to an incident which occurred on April 13, 2021, at or near the 4800 Block of North Quebec Street in Denver, Colorado, Claim No. 2021-001879. This settles a claim involving the Denver Police Department.

24-0952: Amends an intergovernmental agreement with Denver Public Schools adding $1.5 million for a new total of $3 million to administer the Denver Youth Employment Program for 2024 funding year to provide customized workforce development services for eligible Denver youth, citywide
24-0886: Approves an intergovernmental agreement with the Housing Authority of the City and County of Denver (DHA) for $8.5 million and for construction of phase one of a park along South Platte River in the Sun Valley neighborhood
24-0986: Approves the capital equipment purchase of eight vehicles for use in everyday workflow for Parks & Recreation, from the Risk Management Fund, citywide.
24-0819: Approves an intergovernmental agreement with Denver Public Schools for $3.6 million to provide Head Start services to 350 children and their families as a delegate agency of Denver Great Kids Head Start, citywide.
24-0918: Amends a contract with Denver Public Schools by adding $861,100 for a new total of $1.7 million to provide behavioral health related programming, including a community liaison program, a behavioral health staffing pipeline and a wellness team to DPS students and families, citywide

24-0972: A courtesy public hearing referring a question to the ballot to increase the sales and use tax by a rate of 0.5 points to fund affordable housing and related housing support services citywide, subject to voter approval.
24-0898: A required public hearing on a bill for an ordinance approving a resolution requesting the renewal and continuance of the Santa Fe Business Improvement District.
24-0915: A required public hearing on a bill for an ordinance designating 5086 Vrain Street as a structure for preservation. Approves a designation of the Kunsmiller House at 5086 Vrain Street as a structure of preservation, in Council District 1
24-0617: A required public hearing on a bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for 4340-4350 South Monaco Street in Southmoor Park.
