Man walking with assault rifle taken into custody in northwest Colorado Springs: Police
Colorado Springs police were able to peacefully take into custody a man threatening to shoot himself with a rifle on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials.
Officers responded to a 5:30 p.m. call about a man walking down the street with an assault rifle in the northwest part of the city, police said. When they found him in the 5000 block of Aubrey Way, near Flying W Ranch Road, he was still carrying the weapon and told police he intended to shoot himself with it.
A shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area while officers worked to deescalate the situation.
The man, whose name was not released, eventually surrendered to police and was taken into protective custody, officials said. No one else was threatened, and no arrests were announced.
