Denver weather: Early afternoon thunderstorms, potential flooding Tuesday

Denver is forecast for a round of early afternoon thunderstorms Tuesday as monsoonal flow continues, and highs peak in the mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

There’s a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., today. Expect mostly cloudy skies and a high of 87 degrees.

“Another round of thunderstorms is expected today,” the NWS said. “Heavy rain is likely with some of the storms, and there is also a higher threat of severe storms with large hail and damaging winds on the plains today.”

Storms will develop over the mountains by early afternoon, with locally heavy rain as the main threat.

“There is an elevated threat of flash flooding on the more sensitive burn areas with 1 to 2 inches of rain in an hour possible from the stronger storms,” the NWS said.

Looking ahead to Tuesday night, a 30% chance of thunderstorms will continue before 10 p.m. Expect mostly cloudy skies and a low of 60 degrees.

A slight chance for showers will continue through Thursday before temperatures get dry and hot Friday and through the upcoming weekend.

Wednesday: There’s a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Expect mostly sunny skies and a high of 86 degrees.

Thursday: Sunny skies are in the forecast and a high of 86 degrees. There’s a slight chance for showers in the forecast heading into the evening.

Friday: Expect sunny skies and a high of 92 degrees.

Saturday: Expect sunny skies and a high of 94 degrees.
