Kickin’ it with Kiz: Anything less than eight victories by Coach Prime would be failure for this CU Buffs football team

Big 12 Media Days Football

Honest opinion from a CU diehard with season tickets in the family for 50 years: The Buffs about to take the field against North Dakota State are the most-talented team we’ve seen in some time. Colorado will be ranked in the preseason top 25 by 2026. If you don’t see what’s happening in Boulder, you’re about to witness a 5-0 start to this season.

– Mark, Boulder

Kiz: Nobody can talk that talk like Prime. But Deion Sanders is a coach on a six-game losing streak. With two of the top 10 prospects in the next NFL draft and a program he tossed in the microwave because he didn’t have the patience to rebuild, it’s time to put up or shut up. These Buffs are indeed talented. They not only should win eight games, anything less than 8-4 should be regarded as complete failure.

I think a record of 0-3 is more likely than 3-0 to start this CU Buffs football season. How Sanders reacts to the adversity will be entertaining, to say the least.

– Greg, Fort Collins

Kiz: While I was off chasing Snoop around Paris, I heard Prime got a little feisty with Colorado media at a press conference. Well, it’s easier to bark at journalists than beat Nebraska, Arizona or Utah. And it won’t be my fault if Prime loses any of those games.

I have zero confidence Prime can make the Buffs a top-ranked team. The shine will wear off and Prime will move on from Colorado.

– Jay, Chicago

Kiz: While folks from Fort Collins to SEC Country hope Prime gets knocked on his arrogant rump, he’s made college football buzzworthy in Broncos Country. That’s no small feat. It wouldn’t surprise me if Deion follows his sons out of Boulder, but I’ll miss Prime when he’s gone.

Your column on Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif missed the mark. As a long-time supporter of female athletics, Kiz, I think you would’ve gotten this one right. While Khelif certainly faced uncalled for hatred for her participation, you missed the central issue: Her biological make-up. Athletes that have testes and X and Y chromosomes, regardless of whether they identify as female or not, have a decided advantage against female athletes with two X chromosomes.

– Derek, Broomfield

Kiz: The politics of gender were weaponized against Khelif with more ferocity than the punches she threw in the ring. I couldn’t buy the accusation made against Khelif by the International Boxing Association stripped of its governing power, as credible. Fairness in competition is a primary tenet of sports. But that’s sometimes easier said than done, as gender testing varies from swimming to boxing, because each sport operates under its own guidelines. So what standardized test do you advocate? A chromosome declaration as black and white as X and Y? While it’s certainly possible to measure testosterone, how much mandates disqualification from participation in female athletics? Or would you insist on a physical exam, however awkward that might be?

And today’s parting shot is a warming to slow your roll on Broncos rookie Bo Nix.

I seem to remember in Jay Cutler’s rookie debut, he looked like a franchise quarterback. It’s a little early to declare savior status for Nix.

– Larry, Colorado Springs
