CASTLE PINES — On a cluttered leaderboard, Keegan Bradley is the leader in the clubhouse.

Bradley shot a 2-under-par 70 in Saturday’s third round of the BMW Championship to put his tournament total at 12-under. He leads Adam Scott by one stroke.

Bradley’s day was up and down, but it was good enough to shoot him into first place.

On the front nine, Bradley logged four birdies and two bogeys. On the back, he birdied and bogeyed four times each, notching just one par.

Bradley had the lead after Day 1, as he shot a 66. But Scott’s course-record 63 Friday put Bradley in second place heading into the weekend.

“It was tough out there today,” Bradley said. “It was really windy, a lot of elevated tees that were into the wind, which makes it really tough.

“Proud of the way I fought today. I played some brilliant golf but I also hit some terrible shots, too. I guess that’s the way of the world”

Scott struggled early on Saturday, going 4-over through the first four holes. But he played better on the back nine, shooting 2-under (34) to stay just one stroke back of Bradley.

“I really struggled mostly on the greens today,” Scott said. “They were just so different from (Friday’s) round, speed-wise. Felt like I was on a different course almost, and I just battled that most of the round.”

Those two don’t have much separation from the pack, though. Fellow Swedes Ludvig Aberg and Alex Noren are tied for third place at 10-under.

The pairings of the top-four will be the same on Sunday: Bradley with Scott and Aberg with Noren.

Aberg vying for history

Aberg, a 24-year-old from Sweden, could become the first player to win in his BMW Championship debut since Trevor Immelman in 2006.

Aberg matched Scott’s course-record 63 on Friday to put him in the hunt. He shot 1-under par on Saturday to stay just two strokes back of the co-lead at 10-under.

“These are the situations we like to be in,” Aberg said. “We like to be close to the lead coming down the last couple of holes. If we can do that and keep up the aggressive part, I think we’ll be fine.”

Bubble watch

Only 30 of the 50 golfers competing at Castle Pines will compete in next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta.

The 30 who are highest in the FedEx Cup standings after Sunday will punch their tickets to Atlanta.

The golfers who would currently just make the cut are Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood and Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who are projected as Nos. 28 through 30.

Justin Thomas is the first golfer who would miss the cut, as things stand. Thomas was No. 22 in the standings before this weekend, but he is tied for 45th in the BMW Championship field after three days.

Other players who have seen their rankings drop significantly this week include Denny McCarthy, Davis Thompson and Jason Day.

Robert MacIntyre withdraws

Castle Pines saw its second player withdraw from the BMW Championship on Saturday, as Robert MacIntyre did so.

The 28-year-old from Scotland cited a lower-back injury as the reason for his withdrawal. MacIntyre was 1-under par heading into Round 3.

Even with the withdrawal, MacIntyre is projected at No. 19 in the FedEx Cup standings and appears to be safely in the field for next week’s Tour Championship. Hideki Matsuyama withdrew earlier in the tournament, citing a back injury.
