Douglas County man arrested for allegedly stealing 48 cars as a tow truck driver

Brian Chacon, 33, worked for Eagle Wing Towing and allegedly stole 48 vehicles

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for allegedly stealing 48 vehicles while working as a tow truck driver.

The Denver Police Department officially arrested 33-year-old Brian Chacon on Aug. 11 following an investigation into a case of a stolen car in December.

The auto theft detective received information that connected the case to Eagle Wing Towing, which is based in Aurora, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Through the investigation, the detective found that there was one impound lot approved for vehicles towed by the company, but vehicles reported stolen in the area had allegedly been in Chacon’s possession and never made it to the lot.

Chacon allegedly sold “numerous” vehicles to salvage yards and placed others in pay lots in Denver, Aurora and Littleton.

Detectives connected 77 missing vehicles to Chacon and Eagle Wing Towing, authorities said, adding 48 vehicles were confirmed as stolen, while 29 others could not be confirmed because their owners could not be located, the sheriff’s office said.

During the investigation, detectives also discovered that Chacon was in possession of child pornography, authorities alleged.

Official charges will be filed by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office after investigation.

“This suspect was preying on people who trusted that their vehicles would still be in the locations where they left them, whether they were disabled or otherwise,” Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said in the release. “My message again — if you come into Douglas County to commit crimes, we will hold you accountable. We will not allow it to happen.”

Eagle Wing Towing did not respond for comment.
