Multiple arrested, police uncover thousands of dollars of stolen goods in Colorado Springs storage units
A victim’s location of their stolen goods on Facebook Marketplace lead investigators to the recovery of thousands of dollars of stolen items and an arrest, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Police said at 3 p.m. on Thursday, a victim contacted the police department to report they had located stolen property being sold on Facebook Marketplace.
“Recognizing the opportunity for immediate action, officers contacted investigators from the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit and the Metro Burglary Unit,” an online police blotter entry reads.
“Detectives from those two units collaborated and devised a plan to contact and arrest the adult male suspect,” the entry continues.
Following the report, investigators located the suspect in a stolen vehicle and followed them to a nearby shopping center, police said.
According to officials, the department’s Tactical Enforcement Unit alongside K9 units contacted and apprehended three suspects, “one of whom was the main suspect in the burglary and motor vehicle theft,” police said.
The following day, investigators executed search warrants on the three storage units associated with the main suspect, uncovering two stolen vehicles, two firearms and stolen property spanning across at least three separate burglary cases.
Authorities arrested the suspect, who has since been identified as Mathew Kingery. The two other suspects arrested in the investigation have not been identified.
